I love Edward Anthony Masen Cullen! One of Edward’s most enduring qualities is that he is a well-rounded, balanced individual, and I think that is why it was so easy for Bella to fall head over heels in love with him. He is very masculine and protective of Bella, and yet he can sweet and tender, too. He has depth and layers. He can be masculine and pushy and yet isn’t macho and aggression all the time. He also displays a lot of traits that society consider "feminine," such as gentle, compassionate, understanding, yielding, graceful, and beautiful. Most men in our culture have been conditioned to repress their feminine qualities which is a shame. The same thing goes for women when they express masculine qualities. Edward has learned a lot over the years (especially about patience and self-control) and it shows in how he treats others. As we have seen through the course of series, Edward does mistakes and yet he also learns from them and grows, which I think speaks a lot about his character. "Woman or man, each human being is whole. We are all a compendium of many different forms of energy that interact to create a balanced person. To be human, therefore, is to be both gender specific (man or woman) and gender complemented (masculine and feminine). It may sound strange to say that in every person there exists both female and male aspects, but these aspects are tightly interwoven within each of us and learning to access these aspects can help you understand parts of yourself that were previously hidden by a lack of knowledge. Denying this unique polarity can lead to feelings of frustration and confusion, while embracing your gender opposite can bring about a sense of harmony and peace within your soul, a completeness." |

Yeah! I think hes too feminine as well. He needs to act more manly

Yes very much so …

Nope, I don’t he is feminine at all. Emmett and him are two completely different people, with completely different personalities.

I think he’s just right for Bella, actually.
He’s sensitive enough to understand what’s going on with her feelings and also, if you heard people’s thoughts all day long, I think that a lot of people would be more adapted to be sensitive, because its not like a lot of people go around THINKING all macho like, even though they ACT it.
though i still love Emmett and everyone else in that book!!(including Jake!!)
Kay Bella(both are nicknames for shorter names,(Kayla Isabella)my real name)

I don’t think he’s feminine, I think he’s a controlling jerk. Look up ‘abusive boyfriend’ or ‘abusive husband’ and you will find a list of Edward’s characteristics.

No, because then he wouldn’t be Edward

I think so. I think the Bella/Edward relationship is the worst potrayal of a healthy teenage relationship I’ve ever seen. They are too dependent on each other. Bella needs a backbone and Edward needs to not be so controlling.
Sorry, I digressed a little….

idk .. i jus kno i love him nd i dont care!
Edward Cullen rocks!!!

Sometimes he can be a little bit feminine, but if he wasn’t, he wouldn’t be Edward Cullen! I actually think he is a good mixture of both sensitivity and strength. You must realize that he and Emmett are TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE! Would the book be the same if Edward were more like Emmett? NO.
At the same time, he is a bit controlling at times and Bella is sometimes a wimp (portrayed as a damsel in distress in a lot of the situations…sometimes I find myself screaming in my head, "Get a backbone, Bella!").
He needs to stop trying to control everything Bella does and Bella needs to stop depending on Edward for everything.

Still an excellent book, though.
Yeah I agree. He needs to do something that male readers can relate to. Jasper is a real man! Well, a real man-vampire.
